Fitness Marketing Made Simple | Finding Your Unique Voice...

Fitness Marketing Made Simple | Finding Your Unique Voice   Many personal trainers seem to struggle around this whole idea of bringing out their own uniqueness in their offerings. They seem to think it’s about reinventing the wheel or, harder still, inventing something that’s never existed before, EVER! But, you know, it’s just not that complicated and it’s certainly not that difficult to be unique… even when you’re doing stuff that others are already doing. Yes, you read that right. You can STILL be unique while using other people’s contributions as your inspiration… even if you copy them word for word! I know, ‘unique’ and ‘copy’ don’t seem to go together, right? But isn’t that what musicians do all the time when they cover other artists? They sing the same words, use a lot of the same chords yet are still able to make the music their own, and on some occassions, make it MORE popular than the original. If a musician can do this, why not you? Watch these guys to see how you can be an ‘original copy’ and TOTALLY unique! Wasn’t that awesome! Now, you don’t have to love Taylor Swift to completely appreciate what Walk Off The Earth did with their own cover. Exactly the same words as the original and yet somehow mesmerising, surprising, authentic and totally unique, right? What can’t YOU do that with YOUR fitness marketing and your fitness business? After all, we ALL talk about nutrition, exercise, lifestyle, hormones, goals etc so theres nothing truly new being said anymore, but HOW you say it is where your uniqueness comes through. In other words, it not the words themselves, it’s the VOICE you say them in. Find you voice my friends. That’s where the unique lives! To...

4 Articles Every Personal Trainer Should Write...

You know, personal trainers and fitness professionals often tell me how hard it is to come up with content ideas for what to write about for their blogs, websites and newsletters, telling me that every thing they could possibly write about has been written about and that they really don’t think they have anything that they can add. I get it, I really do. When you search on any topic related to health, fitness and fatloss (or ANY topic for that matter), you’ll find hundreds of thousands of articles and blogposts already saying everything that you might have to say about whatever it is you’re interested in. It feels like there’s no point in creating more and going out on a limb with your ideas, right? Yet if that’s how you’re thinking, if that’s what’s holding you back you need to understand something here. The TOPIC may have been written about millions of times but there are BILLIONS of people on the planet and most of them are still pretty unsatisfied with the answers they’ve been given to their problems so far. If they were then they wouldn’t still be searching, right? They’d solve their problems and get on with enjoying life without wasting time reading more articles about things that no longer affect them. You get where I’m going with this? Every man and his dog may well have written articles that you want to write but those articles have missed the mark for a lot of me… and women… and dogs So there’s ‘space’ for what you create… as long as what you create is reflective of your unique approach to solving the problems your readers face. And your unique approach doesn’t have to be the creation of a revolutionary way of...

Know, Like and Trust… The Recipe For Fitness Marketing Success That You’re (Probably) Completely Ignoring Nov08

Know, Like and Trust… The Recipe For Fitness Marketing Success That You’re (Probably) Completely Ignoring...

Know. Like. Trust. Hardly anything new, right? Haven’t you heard a thousand times that building a successful fitness business is about getting known, getting liked and getting trusted? And isn’t that EXACTLY what you’ve been doing? Isn’t it? You know, whenever I read of a trainer who says they’re ‘trying everything but getting nowhere’ with their fitness business or online sales I always take a quick look at their FB wall, their blog and google their name to see what comes up and invariably, the evidence is right there, plain as daylight, as to why they’re struggling. They’re almost completely ignoring the know, like and trust formula that is PROVEN to work. Let’s look at this step by step. We’ll start at ‘KNOW’. The first rule of a successful business is that you have to get known. In other words, people have to actually know who you are what you’re you’re about and what problems you solve. Nothing too rocket-sciencey there, right? And with all the great social media tools out there right now (not like when I started out), it should be super easy to get known. Or so you’d think! I mean, how easy is it to blog? Or to shoot a youtube video? Or to hang around in (or even create) communities where your ideal clients hang out and (now this is weird!) talk to them and solve their problems? There are TONS of ways to get known by those that could most be helped by your knowledge, skills and abilities, so many in fact, that you should have hundreds or even THOUSANDS of people engaging with you every single day of the week. But most fitpros… don’t. Instead they hang around in communities arguing the toss over ‘my system’s better...

5 Things You Should Know About Your Fitness Clients Before You Train Them Nov04

5 Things You Should Know About Your Fitness Clients Before You Train Them...

There are so many things that a professional coach could investigate before getting to work with clients but in my experience here are the most important 5. 1. What does the client want from a coach and why? This is obvious yet that makes it no less critical a component of a client induction process. In fact, most trainers tend not to ask this, instead they focus on what the client wants to achieve, yet these aren’t always the same things. The client may want to lose 20lb but they may most need support outside of the sessions in order to keep them on track or maybe they want a system for getting their family onboard or a means of overcoming their cravings. Being clear about EXACTLY why you’re being invited into their lives is a vital piece of information for you to possess if you want to be as effective as you could be. It’s also vital that you know WHY they want what they want. The why is the secret sauce that assures that they’ll pay the price fr success. WIthout the why, there’s ‘no skin in the game’ as our American friends like to say. I’d never start working with a client without this information. I’m setting them and myself up to fail if I do.   2. What are they NOT willing to do in order to accomplish their goals? Since I first started asking this question about 5 years, my clients results have gone UP and my own frustration with them has gone DOWN massively. Until then I used to assume that they were ready, willing and able to go hard at their goals and give 100% to making them a reality. I’d then get really frustrated when people started (to...

How A Dead Fly Taught Me My Best Fitness Marketing Strategy Nov04

How A Dead Fly Taught Me My Best Fitness Marketing Strategy...

Not that long ago, I was sitting in the reception of one of my personal training studios. It was a nice day so we had the studio door open to let in some `real’ air and freshen up the place a little. As I sat there watching people come in and out for their training sessions I noticed a large, black fly had flown in and after buzzing around for a few minutes and finding nothing of interest, it decided to leave. It flew right past my head and with a `thump’, hit the plate glass window before bouncing off and falling to the floor in a daze. After a few seconds of circling around on the floor it took off again and took what I can only describe as a ‘run-up’ (flyup?) at the window in a greater attempt to get through the barrier that was keeping it from its goal of the outside world. With an even louder `thump’ the fly went down again and spent more time on the floor. Well, to cut a long story short, that fly got up again and again and again and pounded at that window with all of its might for over 10 minutes before I had to get up and take care of a customer. About 30 minutes later I sat back down in the same spot having totally forgotten about the fly and went back to my `people watching’ when, out of the corner of my eye I saw the fly laying at the base of the window on its back, legs in the air. It was dead. Now, usually the death of a fly is not worthy of remembrance but this one I will always remember because its death taught me one...

Overcoming Overwhelm Sep06

Overcoming Overwhelm

On Wednesday I delivered a webinar to over 200 fitpros on the top of overcoming overwhelm in the fitness industry. The call went down a treat and was clearly EXACTLY what so many of the attendees needed as I’ve been inundated ever since by messages saying ‘It felt like you were talking about MY life!’ especially when I was talking about all of the plates so many fitpros spin and just how stressful it is to spin them. I could do a big number on you about the value of the call but, in truth, you’l never really ‘get’ it until you listen. So HERE’S the link so that you can hear it. Enjoy it and PLEASE let me know what you think! Dax   Dax Moy is a pretty cool dude. Part philosopher, part poet, part high-level health coach, part author, part presenter and part fitness business success coach and COMPLETELY bonkers and head over heels in love with the idea of making the fitness industry into a fitness PROFESSION.
